portraits, thatreallycoolstudio & The Laboratory, Cairo, 2022
"We’re really excited to announce the opening of our latest exhibition ‘portraits’ by visiting German conceptual artist Simon Freund this coming Wednesday the 1st of June through Tuesday the 7th of June from 7PM - 11PM.
‘portraits’ is a performance, a quest to better understand humanity, in which Freund asks the audience to shed their clothes for him to portray himself through photography. Don’t worry we got you covered (literally).
By wearing others’ clothes, Freund questions notions of identity, body politics & consumerism. By literally putting himself in other’s shoes, Freund looks to bring to light the commonalities of the human experience, that which we all share & cannot shed.
Freund is wearing studio residents outfit’s in the images seen above.
Come by this Wednesday the 1st of June to explore Freund’s work & world, & to participate in the making of ‘portraits’.

Freund questions our desire for self-expression, our longing for belonging, the question of real versus fake, forms of radical transparency in the digital age and its influence on the perception of others.
